It’s gameday and we’re staring at a rematch of last year’s NFC championship in Los Angeles between the Rams and New Orleans Saints – this time in the Coliseum.
I don’t think we’re going to see an offensive explosion similar to what the Rams and Kansas City Chiefs put on last season, but I still think this is going to be a very high scoring game. The over/under is set at 52 points and I wouldn’t be surprise if we see 70 total points today.
These predictions will all match that outlook.
Todd Gurley has more total yards than Alvin Kamara
Kamara had 169 yards in the Saints week one matchup against the Houston Texans compared to Gurley’s 101 against the Carolina Panthers. You simply don’t stop Kamara, but I think Gurley will get enough opportunities to out gain the Saints stud RB this week.
Jared Goff throws for 400 yards and 4 TDs
In the NFC Championship game, Goff threw for 297 yards and a TD with an INT to match. I think he blows those numbers out of the water today on his home turf.
With the run game more of an emphasis in Week 1, it opened up a ton of play action opportunities for Goff. The OL did an extremely good job keeping Goff upright against a ferocious Panthers front seven and I think they will do even better against a much less talented Saints defensive front.
Cooper Kupp and Tyler Higbee steal the show
While the Saints front seven is a step down from the Panthers, their outside cornerbacks are very talented. There is a significant drop between the starters and their slot corners though.
Kupp and Higbee both had good games in Carolina but I expect Goff to be looking at them early and often today.
Aaron Donald and Dante Fowler Jr. Combine for 4 Sacks
We all know what Donald is capable of, and Fowler showed a bit of his potential last week. I think Wade Phillips will be creative in creating favorable matchups for his stud pass rushers.
Donald will inevitably be double teamed (not that it will stop him) which will create opportunites for Fowler to hop in and snag a few sacks.
